Pampers Wet Wipes

Pampers Wet Wipes

When it comes to wet wipes, there are few brands that are as well known as Pampers. Of course, these are marketed as baby wipes so are safe to be used on babies but they’re just as useful to use yourself.

Pampers is a mid-range product, so while they’re not super expensive they’re not the cheapest option either, especially compared with some budget brands. However, they’re very accessible, and you’ll find them in any baby aisle in just about any shop so they’re easy to get your hands on. If you want to stick with one kind of wipe and know that it’s always going to be available when you buy it, then Pampers are a good option.

One of the selling points of Pampers wipes is that they’re durable, they’re strong enough to deal with babies nappy changes so if this is something that you look for in a wipe then you won’t go wrong with these. The downside of durability, however, is that Pampers wipes aren’t flushable so will need to be disposed of properly, and even then aren’t good for the environment. This involves putting them into a bin (if you’re using them yourself) or wrapping them up in a nappy sack with your baby’s nappy if you’re using them for this purpose and disposing of them into a bin. But depending on your needs, it could be a good choice.

Pros
  • Durable
  • Strong reputation
Cons
  • Thin
  • Can irritate cuts or abrasions
Water Wipes

Water Wipes

The main selling point of Water Wipes is that they’re some of the most natural wipes you can buy. The polyester and viscose wipe contains 99% water and just a drop of fruit extract making them incredibly gentle on the skin.

They’re safe enough to be used on newborns, even premature babies and if you’re an adult who prefers wet wipes over toilet tissue, you can be safe in the knowledge that these won’t irritate your skin in any way. Customers of Water Wipes state that they’re very saturated, this is a personal preference but a wetter wipe does tend to give more cleaning power and is less likely to drag on the skin.

The downside to Water Wipes is that they’re more expensive than other brands, and they’re not flushable. However, being made up of 20% viscose means 20% is biodegradable so not as bad for the environment as some other brands.

Pros
  • Less irritation
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Not septic-safe

The Honest Company Wet Wipes

The Honest Company Wet Wipes

Best Choice

Similar to Water Wipes, The Honest Company makes wipes that are 99% water. This makes them hypoallergenic, free of chemicals such as parabens and also plant based.

The medical grade cloth is made from sustainably harvested plant based material and is ultra thick, super absorbent, and extremely durable. If you’re vegan or plant based and want to ensure that the products you buy aren’t tested on or derived from animals in any way then The Honest Company is a good one to consider, and their wipes follow suite. The Honest Company Wipes are designed with babies in mind so are large and durable enough for the messiest of nappy changes, but due to the lack of irritating ingredients they’re ideal for adults with sensitive skin too. As with Water Wipes, these are a higher end wipe in terms of price, although the lack of perfumes and chemicals and the fact that they can be used on the most sensitive of skin types means that it might be paying the extra for some people.

Pros
  • Over 99% water
  • Plant-based
  • Hypoallergenic
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Not flushable

Cottonelle Wet Wipes

Cottonelle Wet Wipes

On the cheaper end of the spectrum are Cottonelle wipes, and along with being wallet friendly they’re also environmentally friendly too as they’re 100% biodegradable.

If you’re someone that’s conscious about the environment or gets through a lot of wipes then going with a less expensive brand which you’re able to flush is probably the best way to go. These are marketed as adult wipes which are an alternative to toilet tissue so might not be suitable for a baby’s skin, but that won’t be an issue if you’re buying wipes for yourself.

Cottonelle wipes generally get good reviews, although some customers have stated that the new packaging is a bit of a pain and it can make grabbing the next wipe in the pack a little difficult. Cottonelle wipes come from the brand Kleenex, a well known tissue company and the quality is clear. Reviews state that these are easy to flush while still holding up well during use, and don’t leave a residue on the skin. They’re a good ‘best of both worlds’ kind of product as you get quality as well as price.

Pros
  • Bio-degradable, most flushable
Cons
  • Still has some reports of clogged pipes & sewers

Charmin Wet Wipes

Charmin Wet Wipes

We’ve all heard of Charmin toilet tissue, but did you know the brand sold wipes too? It’s suggested that you use both the wipes and the tissue for an ultra clean feel.

As you’d expect from a toilet tissue company, their wipes are also flushable and safe for your septic tank as they’re made from biodegradable materials. Charmin wipes contain ingredients like alcohol, citric acid and others which again means that while they’re suitable for toilet wipes they’re not something you should probably use on a baby-particularly a young baby. Customers state how these are scented wipes, which will be a good or a bad thing depending on your preference but something to bear in mind before buying.

Pros
  • Resealable package
  • Smooth surface
Cons
  • Difficult to dispense one wipe at a time
  • Contains alcohol

Whice Wet Wipes

Whice Wet Wipes

These wet wipes are full body wipes which can be used as a quick fix to freshen up after the gym, to use on the hands or face, or in place of toilet tissue making them a fantastic, versatile product.

Whice wet wipes are marketed as ‘for men’ although of course, they’re suitable for either gender (although they do typically have a more ‘masculine’ fragrance to them. These would be handy to keep in the car so you can always freshen yourself up in a pinch. These wipes in particular are marketed as something to use while travelling too, the large size would be ideal for freshening up after a long flight or train ride and used on the face, body, feet or anywhere you need. Due to the fact that they’re fragranced and contain chemicals to clean up sweat and body odour, they won’t be the best use to use on babies and children so you’d need to pack a separate type of wipes if you’re travelling with your kids.

Pros
  • Fresh & soft
  • Good price
Cons
  • Tears easily

Dude Wet Wipes

Dude Wet Wipes

Another type of wipe targeted to men are Dude wipes. The brand takes a comedic approach, and are most likely to appeal to their target market although of course, being wipes they’re versatile and could be used by women too.

Their site and product information uses language such as ‘stank’ ‘situation’ and ‘drop a bomb’ which are arguably more in line with a male market. Unlike Whice, these state specifically that they’re ‘butt wipes’ rather than as an all-purpose wipe, and are marketed as toilet wipes although like any kind of wet wipe they’re versatile. The brand do also sell a product called ‘Dude Shower Wipes’ too so if you are after more of travel or after-gym wipe then they are available in a slightly different product. The toilet wipes are already 45% larger than most wet wipes, with the shower wipes being bigger still- the brand states that they’re ‘huge’ and ‘extra thick’.

Due to the size and the benefits to the skin, these would be ideal as makeup removing wipes. Even if you go through a skincare routine afterwards, a good face wipe will get rid of surface makeup, oil and dirt making it easier to wash your face. Some customers have stated that these are a ‘drier’ wipe which again, could be a bad or a good thing depending on what you like, but something to bear in mind before purchasing.
